Redesigned Beamr Cloud to enhance user experience, based on screen recordings and research-based interviews with DevOps teams. Focused on improving usability, streamlining workflows, and addressing key user pain points.
Discovering the Need
Beamr was originally designed as a cutting-edge video optimization solution, but when I joined the team, we faced a significant challenge—there were no active customers using the product. Those who did try it struggled to understand where to begin, and the learning curve was steep.
On average, it took 25 minutes for a determined user to grasp the value of Beamr. The onboarding experience was unclear, and many potential users abandoned the process before reaching the product’s true benefits.
This situation highlighted a crucial need: streamlining the user journey to ensure that customers could quickly and effortlessly experience the value of Beamr. Without addressing this, user adoption and engagement would remain a major hurdle.
Framing the Challenge
To understand the root of the problem, we conducted research on competing video processing and optimization solutions. We found that Beamr was not alone in facing challenges related to user onboarding and adoption. Many advanced media tools required a significant learning curve, often catering to highly technical users, which limited their accessibility.
While some competitors had extensive documentation and onboarding flows, they often felt overwhelming. Many users needed a streamlined, intuitive way to experience Beamr’s value without spending excessive time deciphering how to get started.
Instead of simply mimicking existing solutions, we set out to create a frictionless onboarding experience—one that would quickly showcase Beamr’s advantages without requiring deep technical expertise. Our goal was to simplify the initial interaction, ensuring that users could realize the benefits of Beamr in minutes rather than struggling through a complex learning process.
The solution
To address these challenges, we created a playground where users could instantly experience Beamr’s capabilities without friction.
Pre-loaded demo files – Users no longer needed to search for or upload their own videos.
Pre-configured settings – The system provided optimized default settings, eliminating guesswork.
No workflow setup required – For users just looking to test video quality, we removed the need to configure a complex workflow.
This streamlined approach significantly reduced the time-to-value, allowing users to immediately see the benefits of Beamr without unnecessary hurdles.
